Kutjevo is the capital of wine in continental Croatia. The town is situated in the fertile Požega 'golden' valley, on the southern slopes of Krndija and Papuk in a narrow valley of the small river Kutjevčanka. Kutjevo's famous wine cellar holds archival wine – the famous Kutjevo Graševina, Pinot Gris, White Pinot, Traminer, Riesling. Right next to the cellar and winery complex there is the beautiful castle of Kutjevo, which was connected to the winery by an underground passage. The famous Baron Franjo Trenk and Empress Maria Theresa once lived here.
Kutjevačko Vincelovo is a traditional and highly visited wine event which marks the beginning of the grape harvest. In the centre of the town on the square Trg graševine, Slavonian sausages and bacon are baked, which are all washed down with Kutjevo's famous wines, and the stage echoes with the music of tambourines and the songs of visiting a'cappella groups.
